You can find RunGo’s step-by-step guide of How to Run an Open Course race, including instructions on how to use the app, here.
Click the following links to download the RunGo app for iPhone, Android, or Apple Watch. The RunGo app is free. Tip: For the best mobile experience with the RunGo app, make sure that your smartphone’s operating system is up to date and that you are using the most up-to-date version of the RunGo app. We also recommend running with your iPhone, and not just your Apple Watch, so you can get the full audio experience from Dirt, Sweat & Beers.
It's free! Your race has partnered with RunGo to make this verified and carefully crafted route free. There are some power-user features for a paid upgrade, but that doesn't change this Open Course race experience. In fact, you don’t even need to create a RunGo account to do your race. Just select the route, and run.
When you register for Dirt, Sweat, & Beers, you’ll receive an email confirmation with the course link. The email will go to the email you registered with. If you didn’t receive the email in your inbox, please check your junk and spam folders, or the promotions tab if you use a Gmail account. If that doesn’t work, please email dsb@rei.com.
You technically do not need GPS capabilities to participate in the race, but we highly recommend you use the RunGo app and its built-in GPS functionality to get the full race experience! If you choose to complete the course without utilizing the RunGo app, you will need to print the course map and will need to record your own time. You can then enter your results manually. Again, we recommend that you let the RunGo app do all of this for you! Please note that manual entries will not be eligible for prizes since they cannot be verified. If you want to be eligible for prizes, including “5K/10K Top Finisher” and “Overall 5K/10K Series Champion”, then you must complete your course with the RunGo app. Thank you for understanding.
Yes! Read the pre-race instructions, download the RunGo app, and set the correct DSB route as a favorite before you arrive at the start of your run. The RunGo app still uses GPS to record the run and you will have a chance to upload your results to the leaderboard when you have cell service again. To be safe, we recommend downloading the app and “favoriting” the route before leaving home every time.
Strava is not connected to the Dirt, Sweat & Beers leaderboard - RunGo is. There are hundreds of apps like Strava which can time your effort. For this race series, the RunGo app takes care of ALL of that for you. Should you choose to use another timing app, you can manually upload your time to RunGo. But please be advised that any results gathered outside of RunGo cannot be officially verified and will not be eligible to win any prizes.
Your data stays in the RunGo private leaderboard. Any data you share with RunGo is stored with secure providers in the cloud. All data is encrypted. When you submit your run to the leaderboard, that run data may be shared with the race director and its specific event partners. There are no ads in RunGo nor any 3rd-party tracking services that have any access to your data.
I just read the info on how to use RunGo, and I saw that the last step asks me to upload a Share Image. What’s a Share Image? Do I need to upload one for my results to be counted?
You can share any image or picture you took on your run or in your phone library on your smartphone. It's just an extra way to show friends and family that you completed the Dirt, Sweat & Beers course. You do not need to share an image if you don't want to or if you don't use social media. Your results will still be counted. Oh, and if you do share, please don’t forget to tag @REI, @Salomon, @SierraNevada and use the hashtags #DirtSweatAndBeers and #OptOutside!
--Yes. Make sure you have the route loaded on your RunGo Apple Watch app before starting. How? You can find the route in the iPhone app and tap the Apple Watch icon on the route view to send to your watch. Or, you can search for the route directly in the Apple Watch app.
--Be sure to start the route in the correct mode: Normal.
--At the end of the run, stop your run, tap done, and export to send back to your iPhone and online RunGo logbook.
--Please know you will still receive the audio navigation messages when you use your Apple watch, however you will not hear the custom, Dirt, Sweat & Beers audio messages from REI, the race director and our sponsors
--Apple Watch tip: swipe side to side to view different screens, like run stats, map and elevation guide, directions, and pause/stop/lock screen. You may swipe up on the Digital Crown to pause and resume your run!
If you do not see two blue boxes with check marks next to your name, this means that your results are not officially verifiable. Results that are verified mean they properly used the RunGo app to complete their course. If you uploaded your results manually, you will not have two blue boxes checked, as manual uploads are not able to be officially verified.
